U.S. ARMY TO USE ORE-MEDIX TRAUMASTAT™ HEMOSTATIC BANDAGES IN COMBAT FIELD TRIALS
Salem, OR (August 8, 2008) Ore-Medix, a Salem, Oregon based manufacturer and supplier of innovative health care products, has announced that the U.S. Army will be using its patented TRAUMASTAT hemostatic bandages in combat field trials.
TRAUMASTAT hemostatic bandages are based on a patented material manufactured and marketed by Ore-Medix. They are designed to stop large vessel arterial and venous bleeding fast, in 30 seconds or less. TRAUMASTAT features a high surface area as much as100x greater than standard gauze and other bandages and offers superior hemostatic performance.
“Multiple studies have shown that while TRAUMASTAT can stop bleeding in 30 seconds or less, competitive bandages recommend direct pressure on the wound for 3 minutes or longer,” said Scott Sackinger, Ph.D., Ore-Medix Product Development Manager. “That can be the difference between life and death when dealing with traumatic wounds. We are pleased the U.S. Army will be evaluating TRAUMASTAT in the field and look forward to their results.”
TRAUMASTAT handles like an ordinary gauze bandage, so it takes little or no training to learn how to use it. The bandage can be applied in any orientation and is readily torn into smaller pieces for packing into a narrow wound cavity. The bandage is conformable, and composed of unique fibers which have high surface area for rapid interaction with the clotting components of blood.
